Why daylilies?

Of all the plants available to grow in Georgia, what makes daylilies so special?

I'm confident every member of NWGDS would give you a different reason for why daylilies are special to him or her. Some would say the plant will live through anything, others that the hybridizing challenges give them a reason to get out of bed every day, and still others might say they just like to look at the pretty flowers. Whatever the reason, daylilies grow in peoples' hearts as well as their gardens, and once a person is bitten by the daylily bug, they're never the same.
